CANDON CITY, ILOCOS SUR, MARCH 9 – – To help gain equal participation of women in the society, at least 1, 000 members of the “PUSO ti Kababaihan” gathered at the Candon Civic Center for their district convention along with the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2020.
“PUSO ti Kababaihan” or Progress, Unity, Socialization and Outreach cooperative of women is an organization of empowered women from the city of Candon and 22 towns of the Second District of Ilocos Sur formed and headed by Representative Kristine Singson last year.
“During our meeting last month, we have agreed to conduct our first activity, which aims to disseminate information mainly on women’s health and livelihood, this March along with the National Women’s Month celebration in the Philippines,” Rep. Singson said.
Dr. Carmeliza Singson, provincial health officer, and Iloisa Romaraog-Diga, entrepreneur and co-creator of commerce website and mobile app, Session Groceries, provided a lecture on their respective fields during the convention.
As the number of CoronaVirus Disease (COVID-19) cases in the world continues to increase, Dr. Singson gave a health care lecture to convey information on the measures being adopted to prepare for and prevent the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, Diga talked about her ventures that have helped farmers in Benguet province to earn more from their harvest. She included them as sellers in the Session Groceries app and since then she was able to expand their services to customers in Metro Manila.
Rep. Singson is positive that there are many local products in Ilocos Sur that can be sold in the app and entrepreneurs in the province will be thrilled to expand their ways of selling the products.
“We commit that our office is always ready to help those who are interested in partnering with Ms. Diga especially if they need help in applying for Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certificate or improvement of their product, branding, and labelling, we can request for a keynote speaker to educate and train them on this matter,” Rep. Singson added.
During the convention, P100, 000 cash grant was given to each chapter, which will be used to implement their projects and programs in improving livelihood programs in their community.
The convention also recognizes the support of the provincial government, headed by Gov. Ryan Luis V. Singson, in empowering the women sector of the province.
Also present during the convention were Provincial Board Members Gina Cordero and Mildred Elaydo, Candon City Vice Mayor Kristelle G. Singson and other women who are working in the government sector.
