CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — Some 1,900 tertiary students from the second district of Ilocos Sur received scholarship allowance on Saturday morning, December 10.
The assistance is from the College Educational Assistance Program (CEAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Field Office 1 through Deputy Speaker and Second District Representative Kristine Singson-Meehan.
Each student received P5,000 educational assistance at the Candon Arena in Barangay Bagani Campo in this city.
Grateful for the grant she received, Hannah Faith Alzaro, a daughter of farmers from Salcedo town, expressed her joy as a beneficiary.
“Of course, this is a huge help since I can use this to pay for my tuition as a midwifery student in North Luzon Philippines State College,” Alzaro said.
The CEAP allowances were distributed by Candon City Mayor Eric Singson, Deputy Speaker Singson-Meehan, staff of Senator Imee Marcos, the DSWD Field Office 1, and other officials of the city and the provincial government.
Senator Marcos was scheduled to attend the distribution ceremony but was unable to do so due to unforeseen weather conditions.
Mayor Singson thanked Senator Marcos for her consistent support to the city and the province.
He mentioned, “I am overjoyed that the scholarship program has continued from 23 years ago. Now we can provide for more beneficiaries thanks to the efforts of Deputy Speaker Singson-Meehan.”
Meanwhile, Representative Singson-Meehan congratulated the students and advised them to study well.
She also announced to them, “You will receive P5,000 educational assistance for this semester, we will again schedule the awarding of the same amount for the next semester.”
